About systemic lupus

Many lupus patients experience problems after they have been exposed to sunlight, or UV light (from fluorescent lights, halogen lights, computer monitors). Systemic lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, lungs, nervous system, and other organs of the body. Scientists think that people are born with the genes to develop lupus and that something brings on or “triggers” the disease and symptoms.
Lupus is the focus of intense research as scientists try to determine what causes the disease and how it can best be treated. Treatment for lupus depends on your signs and symptoms. With respect to fertility, women with lupus are just as capable of becoming pregnant and having children as the general population.
